MONTREAL – Police say they are investigating after a 30-year-old woman was shot Sunday in the Town of Mount Royal, an affluent suburb on Montreal Island.

Montreal police say the woman was transported to hospital in critical condition but is expected to survive.

Police say in the woman was in her car with two other people when they were shot at from another vehicle.

They say one person fled the scene before police arrived, while the other was not injured.

Montreal police said in early December that there had been 43 attempted murders using firearms on Montreal Island in 2022, down from 50 the year before.

Police say there were 41 homicides on Montreal Island in 2022, the highest number in 15 years.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Jan. 2, 2022.
