Toronto police are investigating a shooting at a Scarborough pub where 12 people were hurt Friday night. The suspect is still at large, police say.

All of the victims were taken to hospital and four have non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The extent of the injuries of the other eight are unknown.

Police said they were called to the shooting in the area of Progress Avenue and Corporate Drive, in an eastern area of Toronto, about 10:40 p.m. on Friday. The shooting happened near the Scarborough Town Centre, a mall near Highway 401 and McCowan Road.

According to Toronto Fire Services, crews were called to 520 Progress Ave. for reports of gunfire and an active shooting that happened inside a pub.

There’s no word on the ages or sexes of the victims.

Earlier, Toronto paramedics said there were 11 victims in all, with injuries ranging from minor to critical, but police later revised the number to 12 injured.

Police said the suspect was wearing a black balaclava and was seen fleeing in silver car. No other details about the suspect were released.

Mayor ‘deeply troubled’ by reports of shooting

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said in a post on X: “I am deeply troubled to hear reports of a shooting at a pub in Scarborough.”

Chow said she has spoken to Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw and he has assured her that “all necessary resources have been deployed.”

Chow added: “This is an early and ongoing investigation — police will provide further details. My thoughts are with the victims and their families.”

A command post has been set up in the west end of a parking lot near the pub, police said.

Progress Avenue was closed between Ellesmere Road and Highway 401 as police investigate. Police told people to avoid the area and to use alternate routes.

Anyone with information is urged to call 911.
