Recognizing Black leaders fits Canada’s theme for Black History Month 2025
Marques Brownlee calls himself a geek.
But with almost 20 million subscribers on his YouTube channel devoted to the latest tech gadgets, the label seems to be working for him.
The U.S. influencer’s name was just one of many that came up when CBC Kids News contributor Matthew Hines asked teens in Toronto, Ontario, to name a Black creator they admire.
February is Black History Month. According to the Canadian government, it’s a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black Canadians.
This year’s theme includes a nod to Black leaders and “uplifting future generations.”
So, we decided to ask the next generation who they look up to.
