RCMP say a vehicle involved in a crash that killed five people on Saturday night was the subject of an “extensive” search earlier that evening related to an impaired driving report.

On Saturday around 11:12 p.m. AT, a Honda Civic and a Nissan Sentra collided on Highway 101 between Hantsport, N.S., and Falmouth, about 1.5 kilometres from Exit 7. Five people died in the crash and one person was critically injured.

Police say the Civic was going the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes of the twinned section of highway.

In a news release on Monday afternoon, RCMP said Kings District RCMP responded to a possible impaired driver call at 7:20 p.m. involving the same Honda Civic.

The vehicle was last seen at a restaurant on Highway 1 near the 11600 block in Grand Pré, but despite an extensive search for the car by multiple officers in Kings and West Hants counties, police did not locate it.

RCMP are asking the public for help pinpointing where the vehicle was before 7:20 p.m. and before the crash.

The car is a blue 2014 Honda Civic with the licence plate HLF590.

Anyone with information about the vehicle, or with dashcam footage of the area before the collision, is asked to call West Hants District RCMP at 902-798-2207, or Crime Stoppers.
