Based on the classic Russian novel-in-verse by Alexander Pushkin, the production tells the story of Eugene Onegin, a worldly and aloof socialite, who comes to regret rejecting the reserved and bookish Tatyana. The cast is led by Ukrainian bass-baritone Andrii Kymach, who makes his COC debut as the title character. He is joined by Australian soprano Lauren Fagan as Tatyana and American tenor Evan LeRoy Johnson as Onegin’s best friend turned enemy, the poet, Lensky. In a production that’s been globally acclaimed for its beauty and elegant simplicity, Eugene Onegin is directed by Robert Carsen and designed by Michael Levine, two Canadian visionaries of the opera stage.
