Canadian romance author Carley Fortune has announced that her fifth novel, Our Perfect Storm, will be published on May 5, 2026.

The novel centres around best friends Frankie and George. When Frankie is dumped on the morning of her wedding, George convinces her to take him on her Vancouver Island honeymoon instead.

Frankie and George have been close since they were eight years old, but their tempers tend to get in the way. This trip to Tofino is a chance to repair that — and keep Frankie from wallowing. But the more time they spend together, the more they realize that something might have been brewing between them all along.

The cover for Our Perfect Storm was revealed on the television program Good Morning America Aug. 27.

The title will be the first of the No. 1 New York Times bestselling author’s books to be published in hardcover.

Fortune is a Toronto-based writer and journalist who has worked as an editor for Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine and Toronto Life. Her previous books are One Golden Summer, Every Summer After, This Summer Will Be Different and Meet Me at the Lake.

Meet Me at the Lake was the first romance title to be a contender for Canada Reads. In 2024, it was championed by Mirian Njoh.

Earlier this summer, the cast of Every Year After, the television adaptation of Fortune’s bestselling novel Every Summer After was announced.

The dual-timeline Every Summer After follows Percy and Sam, two childhood friends whose close bond was shattered by a fateful moment that forced them apart — and the complicated love story that unfolds when they’re reunited years later at a funeral. The book is set in Ontario cottage country.

The Amazon Prime Video series will feature British actor Sadie Soverall as Percy and American actor Matt Cornett as Sam, Fortune said in a newsletter to fans.
