Provincial police are asking people in Ohsweken, Ont., to shelter in place, saying on Saturday morning that there is an armed suspect in the area.

The request is in response to a disturbance in the area of Onondaga Road and Sixth Line in the Six Nations community, which is located about 25 kilometres southeast of Brantford, the Ontario Provincial Police said in a post on social media platform X just after 7 a.m. Saturday.

Area residents are asked to lock their doors and windows and watch for police updates on the situation, the OPP said.

“We will advise when [the shelter in place] has been lifted,” the OPP said in a separate post just after 8 a.m. “We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as officers work to resolve this situation.”
