RCMP Assistant Commissioner David Teboul has been charged with three counts of assault, according to the B.C Prosecution Service (BCPS).

The service says the alleged offences occurred on July 2 while Teboul, the federal policing regional commander for the Pacific Region, was off duty in Abbotsford, B.C.

BCPS says Teboul is facing one count of assault and one count of assault by choking in relation to one complainant, and a third count of assault in relation to a second complainant.

Teboul has been a Mountie since 1997 and in his current role since 2024, according to the RCMP website.

On Friday, the BCPS announced they had assigned Andi MacKay, a senior Vancouver lawyer in private practice, as a special prosecutor for the case.

The service said this was done “to avoid any potential for real or perceived improper influence in the administration of justice considering the nature of the allegations and the identity of the accused as a police officer in a senior position of authority.”

Teboul’s first appearance is scheduled for Oct. 9 at Abbotsford Law Courts.
