American media personality Kim Kardashian said she had been diagnosed with a brain aneurysm, U.S. media outlets reported on Thursday.
Kardashian revealed her diagnosis during a teaser for the seventh season of her reality show, The Kardashians, which recently premiered on Hulu.
In the clip, Kardashian said doctors found a “little aneurysm” after she received an MRI. She further stated that those doctors insinuated the condition could have been brought on by stress. Kardashian then went on to describe the stress she felt after divorcing musician Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) in 2022.
“People think that I have the luxury of walking away,” Kardashian said in the clip, referring to Ye. “My ex will be in my life no matter what. We have four kids together.”
Kardashian has championed the usefulness of full body MRI scans in the past, though some doctors advise they are not useful for all patients according to the New York Times.
It was not clear whether Kardashian was experiencing symptoms or not. Kardashian’s agent, public relations representative and attorney did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.
A brain aneurysm is the widening or bulging of blood vessels in the brain. If those vessels rupture, they can cause a brain bleed — also known as a hemorrhagic stroke . According to the Mayo Clinic, brain aneurysms are relatively common and — especially when small — are usually not life-threatening. They are often found when doctors are testing for other conditions.
Stress is not traditionally listed as a direct trigger for the condition. High blood pressure — which can be influenced by stress — is a risk factor for brain aneurysms, according to Johns Hopkins.
Along with playing a lawyer in the Hulu Series Alls Fair, Kardashian has spent the past year completing her Law Office Study Program — a six-year endeavour she says are part of her desire to become a trial lawyer. Earlier this year, she gave evidence in the trial of a gang called the “grandpa robbers,” who were accused of stealing jewelry worth millions of dollars from her at gunpoint during Paris Fashion Week in 2016.
