Eight years after Barry and Honey Sherman were murdered, their daughter Alex Krawczyk is still holding out hope that justice will be served.

The Shermans were found dead from strangulation in the basement pool area of their home on Old Colony Road in Toronto’s North York neighbourhood on Dec. 15, 2017, and the case has remained unsolved.

“I’m encouraged, to a small degree, that the case is still active, that [the police] haven’t since said. ‘we can’t solve this,’” Krawczyk told CBC Radio’s Metro Morning earlier this week.

“I honestly don’t know where they’re at, and I respect that,” she said. “It’s a one-way street where I give them information and they have to stay very guarded.”

The Mystery of the Sherman Murders

Barry and Honey Sherman were found dead in their Toronto home in December.

Barry’s status as one of the richest people in Canada, Honey’s philanthropy efforts, and the mysterious circumstances surrounding their murder drew widespread attention to the case.

Many different theories about the case have circulated, from a possible mob connection to a potential inter-family conflict. Toronto police remain committed to resolving the case, police spokesperson Laurie McCann told CBC News. However, she declined to share details of the case.

The Sherman family has previously offered a $35-million reward for information that leads to the resolution of this case, and Krawczyk is encouraging anyone with information to speak “directly to the Toronto police and nobody else.”

While the case remains unsolved, Krawczyk said she can’t escape concerns for her and her loved ones’ safety.

However, Krawczyk said she remains committed to the philanthropic legacy of her parents.

“I met with a lot of different charities that they worked with, trying to figure out what they were working on,” she said.

“I’m trying to help finish some of the work that they were supposed to do.”

Some of the initiatives Alex has helped fund include the Ma’mo’weh Wii’soo’ka’tiwin Foundation, a wellness camp operated by the Kenora Chiefs Advisory, and the development of an Indigenous-focused care centre at St. Michael’s Hospital.
