Tegan Quin of pop-indie duo Tegan and Sara is one of the writers of the Marvel Comics pride special one-shot, Wiccan & Hulking: Raid of Ultron #1, publishing on May 27.

The comic features the iconic gay couple Wiccan and Hulkling and their families, highlighting the importance of community and connection in tough times.

Quin’s story, illustrated by Luciano Vecchio, is about twins Wiccan and Speed, who team up to fight Ultron while grappling with their diverging paths as siblings.

“As a twin myself, I truly can’t think of two characters in the Marvel Universe I would have been more excited to write than Wiccan and Speed,” Quin said in a statement on Marvel’s website.

“Making my Marvel debut with this story isn’t just a thrill, it feels downright magical. And let’s just say Ultrons aren’t that different from certain folks I’ve encountered in the record industry over the years, so spending a few pages crushing one into oblivion was deeply cathartic.”

Wiccan & Hulking will also feature contributions from writers Wyatt Kennedy, Josh Trujillo and Zoe Tunnell, and artists Rachael Stott, Bradley Clayton and Stephen Byrne.

Quin, based in Vancouver, is also championing Loghan Paylor’s novel The Cure for Drowning on Canada Reads 2026.

On Canada Reads, five Canadian celebrities each pick one book that the whole country should read. They debate their choices over the course of four days, voting to eliminate one every day. The last book standing is the winner.

This year’s edition will take place on April 13 to 16.

Over Quin’s career, she and her sister have released 10 studio albums, featuring hit songs like Closer, Where Does The Good Go and Walking with A Ghost. They’ve sold more than a million records, receiving accolades including Juno and GLAAD awards, a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award and nominations for the Polaris Music Prize and the Grammy Awards.

The twins took their writing talents from songs to books in 2019 with their joint memoir, High School, and the middle-grade graphic novel duology Tegan & Sara: Junior High, illustrated by Tillie Walden.

They also started the Tegan and Sara Foundation to support and invest in 2SLGBTQ+ communities, which earned them the Humanitarian Award at the 2024 Junos.
