Border security officers have intercepted 87 kilograms of Alberta-bound narcotics at the Canada-United States border.

According to the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA), the suspected cocaine was seized at the Coutts Port of Entry between Alberta and Montana.

In an April 2 press release, the CBSA said the incident took place on Feb. 15.

Officials said the drugs were found hidden in three suitcases during a search of the driver’s cab of a Calgary-bound commercial truck carrying a load labelled as produce.

CBSA Prairie regional director Janalee Bell-Boychuck said the seizure “highlights both the critical and ongoing role CBSA officers play in disrupting organized crime and preventing dangerous drugs from reaching Alberta communities.”

The driver was arrested by CBSA officers and has since been transferred into RCMP custody.

According to the CBSA, the incident follows three separate seizures at the Coutts border crossing late last year where its officers seized over 1,000 kilograms of narcotics.

The border watchdog says its officers in Alberta made over 1,292 seizures of illegal narcotics in 2025.
