Prince George RCMP say a man is in custody following reports of a man who brought a firearm to a CN railyard in Prince George.

Police say witnesses spotted an unauthorized man, who appeared to have a firearm, in the CN railyard near Terminal Boulevard and Industrial Way, just before 10 a.m. PT Sunday.

Witnesses reported the man was acting suspiciously and trying to enter buildings, vehicles and trains.

Witnesses told CBC News that employees were asked to shelter in place while the incident unfolded.

When officers arrived, the man attempted to flee in a vehicle, police said.

Police then made manoeuvres to stop the vehicle. Once stopped, an officer shot their service pistol at Finke, who was then arrested after a brief struggle.

“The rapid response by police officers was key to this event concluding as it did with one person in custody and no injuries to the public,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media relations officer for Prince George RCMP.

Police said they searched the suspect and his vehicle and located a firearm and ammunition.

Daniel Patrick Finke, 31, has been charged with pointing a firearm, flight while pursued from a police officer, and dangerous operations of a motor vehicle.

Police said he will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
