A wildfire broke out in the Rock Ridge area of Maple Ridge, B.C., on Friday evening.

The Maple Ridge fire department said in an online post crews responded to reports of a brush fire around 6:30 p.m. and worked overnight to contain the fire in steep and challenging terrain.

It said the fire is contained as of Saturday morning.

The B.C. Wildfire Service has the fire classified as out of control on its website, which means the fire is spreading or it is anticipated to spread beyond the current perimeter or control line.

CBC News has reached out to both organizations to clarify the status of the fire.

The fire is less than a quarter of a square kilometre in size, or around 1.5 hectares, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service.

The fire department said it continues to work alongside B.C. Wildfire Service to monitor, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
