Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce wedding rumours fuelled by New York street closures

Over the past few months, Swifties and entertainment news junkies have been trying to figure out the answer to the big question: when and where will Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce hold their rumoured summer blockbuster wedding?

It appears The New York Times may have uncovered some major clues.

On Thursday, the publication reported that “a permit was filed with New York City to close the streets around Madison Square Garden from July 2 to midday July 4 for an event on July 3,” citing “three people with knowledge of the matter.”

The report went on to reveal that an “entertainment industry executive and another person with knowledge of the matter” confirmed that “Ms. Swift rented” the Garden and described activities planned for the weekend. Those plans reportedly include “an intimate gathering of about 100 people at the Garden” on July 2, followed by “a splashier celebration with possible stage appearances” on July 3rd where roughly 1000 guests are expected to attend.

But wait, there’s more: the report also claims that “several members of the Kansas City Chiefs” have booked hotel rooms for dates around July 3 at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, “according to a person told of the accommodations.”

The federal Amtrak police department, which patrols the station beneath the arena, has apparently been notified to “expect a Swift wedding the weekend of July 4.”

None of those claims have been confirmed by representatives for either Taylor Swift or Travis Kelce. Still, the report bolsters some of the rumours running wild since the pop superstar and the Chief’s three-time Super Bowl champion announced their engagement on Instagram on Aug. 26, 2025.

Since then, fans have been fixated on uncovering every possible detail about when and where the pair’s highly anticipated wedding will take place. From tracking red-carpet manicures to combing through football and venue schedules and dissecting numbers in Swift’s music videos, Swifties have left no stone unturned in their quest for answers.

Here’s a closer look at the rumours around what could be the wedding of the year — heck, maybe even of the century.

Rumour #1: The July 4 theory

Fan speculation largely centred on a July 3 ceremony in New York.

This weekend is kind of a big deal for Swift and her fans because it overlaps with the singer’s  iconic annual Fourth of July “Taymerica” parties  — star-studded bashes she’s held at her Rhode Island estate over the past decade.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani dropped a huge hint about the wedding potentially taking place that weekend, during a June 15 speech.  Speaking at a news conference  about a scheduled FIFA game in New Jersey, Mamdani said, “We know it coincides with the Knicks’ finals run, we know it coincides with July 4th, America 250, Taylor Swift’s wedding — all happening at the same time.”

Mamdani played coy afterwards and did not elaborate, and when asked if he had received an invite to the wedding, he laughed and said no.

Rumour #2: A Madison Square Garden extravaganza

Fans have also been speculating about a massive celebration at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden. A  June 5 report by TMZ  fuelled those rumours, claiming Swift would wed the football star at the venue on July 3 with more than 1,000 guests in attendance. The outlet also reported that to maintain privacy, guests were invited by phone instead of a physical invitation.

Neither star’s representative has confirmed those rumours.

There has also been chatter online that this venue could be a decoy, with a more intimate location planned instead.

Many on Reddit  expressed doubt that the pop singer would choose the world’s most famous arena for her wedding.

“The concept of Taylor Swift getting married at Madison Square Garden is sooo ridiculous to me that I think it’s a distraction and they are actually getting married somewhere else,” one user commented.

As outlandish as the idea may seem to some,  several outlets  have reported the arena does offer some privacy benefits, including an underground parking lot, where guests can come and go unseen, as well as a windowless exterior, preventing paparazzi from peeking through into the main area.

There’s also an intriguing gap in the venue’s schedule:  Its website  lists a concert on June 28 and July 7, with no public events planned in between.

Rumour #3: Rhode Island estate affair

Then there’s the pre-wedding buzz near Swift’s home. Fans  first suspected  and became fixated on June 13 — a nod to Swift’s lucky number. Days later, when a large tent appeared next door to Swift’s Watch Hill, R.I., estate, it set the internet ablaze and sparked an influx of fans and paparazzi flocking to the quiet, affluent New England beach town.

The rumours however, proved to be unfounded, with local wedding planner Nicole Simeral telling  The Canadian Press  that the tent was used for other wedding events — not for the stars’ union.

There were also rumours that Swift had booked the ritzy Ocean House hotel — which neighbours her property on the beach — after white wedding tents were spotted at the luxury resort. But another local planner, Elizabeth Hall, waved away that theory,  telling CNN  on June 19 that the tents were for her own client’s wedding that weekend, and not the celebrity couple.

Even so, the estate remains at the centre of fan speculation, after fireworks were seen lighting up the sky near the superstar’s sprawling white coastal mansion this past Saturday night in a  video shared by TMZ .

According to a  June 20 report , TMZ also captured footage of some black SUVs leaving Taylor Swift’s home, fuelling talk that she was winding down her suspected bachelorette party weekend.

As with the rest, the Rhode Island theory has not been confirmed by the couple’s representatives.

One thing’s clear: Neither Swift or Kelce seem to be pressed by the swirling rumours, and are keeping the details of their upcoming nuptials under wraps as best they can  — for now.
