Prosecutors have withdrawn charges against a Georgetown, Ont., man accused of being involved in the multimillion-dollar gold heist at Pearson airport in 2023.

Charges against Ammad Chaudhary were withdrawn by Crown prosecutors on April 9, 2026, exactly two years after he was first arrested.

In 2024, Chaudhary was charged with one count of committing an indictable offence of theft over $5,000 and accessory after the fact.

Court documents obtained by CBC News and a letter from Chaudhary’s lawyer Ravin Pillay did not state why those charges were dropped.

Pillay however confirmed that his client was no longer facing any charges from his arrest in 2024.

The heist at Pearson took place on April 17, 2023 after a flight arrived from Zurich, Switzerland, with a cargo shipment of 400 kilograms of gold — valued at more than $20 million at the time — and about $2.5 million in foreign currency. The items were reported missing the following day.
