Saint Lucia Moved to Level 2 Advisory

July 15, 2026 Team Contributor

The latest US travel advisory update for Saint Lucia has placed the popular Caribbean destination under increased scrutiny after officials raised their warning level over crime concerns. The revised safety warnings urge travellers to ‘Exercise Heightened Caution’ as reports of violent offenses and tourist scams continue to surface across the island.

Saint Lucia Moved to Level 2 Advisory

Saint Lucia remains a sought-after Caribbean getaway for travellers, known for its iconic Pitons, luxury resorts, and pristine beaches. However, officials warn that violent crime can occur anywhere on the island, including areas frequented by foreign visitors.

U.S. State Department said in the advisory, “Violent crime can occur anywhere in Saint Lucia. U.S. citizens and other foreigners in Saint Lucia have been victims of armed robbery, assault, burglary, and rape.”

The latest U.S. travel advisory places Saint Lucia at Level 2 on July 10, 2026, highlighting crime as an increased concern for travellers.

Crimes Highlighted in the Advisory

According to U.S. authorities, both American citizens and other foreign tourists have been victims of serious crimes in Saint Lucia. Authorities also cautioned that local police response times may be slower than those typically experienced in the United States.

Reported offenses include:

  • Tourist scams and overcharging

The advisory notes that some incidents have involved guests staying at tourist resorts. In certain cases, U.S. citizens have reportedly been killed.

Tourist Areas Remain Vulnerable

While violent offenses remain a major concern, officials say opportunistic crimes continue to be common in busy visitor districts. Travellers may encounter aggressive vendors, inflated pricing practices, and scams targeting tourists. Popular attractions often have tourist police available to assist visitors facing uncomfortable situations.

Safety Guidance for Visitors

The U.S. government advises travellers to take extra precautions while visiting Saint Lucia.

Recommended safety measures include:

  • Stay aware of surroundings at all times
  • Avoid displaying jewelry or expensive belongings
  • Remain alert in crowded tourist locations
  • Use caution when walking or driving at night
  • Stay vigilant near banks and ATMs
  • Keep a low profile in public areas
  • Do not physically resist robbery attempts
  • Check luggage carefully for firearms or ammunition before departure
  • Review local laws, customs, and travel insurance coverage before arrival

While the updated U.S. advisory highlights growing concerns over crime and scams, Saint Lucia continues to draw significant international interest as one of the most sought-after Sun and Sand destinations. Recent travel industry data identified the Caribbean islands among the fastest-growing choices for travelers seeking warm-weather escapes, making awareness, vigilance, and informed trip planning more important than ever.
