RCMP have charged a 19-year-old man with intimidation and mischief related to a protest last week in Wolfville, N.S., where Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston’s vehicle was surrounded and damaged.
In a news release Monday, police said the man appeared in provincial court in Kentville, N.S., and remains in custody.
He is charged with one count of intimidation of a justice system participant, two counts of intimidation and one count of mischief under $5,000. Under the Criminal Code, justice system participants can include elected officials.
Protesters surrounded the premier’s vehicle following a speech he made to the Annapolis Valley Chamber of Commerce at Acadia University on July 15. The windshield was smashed.
The premier and his staff remained inside the vehicle for several minutes before officers escorted him out and back into the building.
