Busy day for Canadian swimmers
It’s going to be a very busy night in the pool for Canadian swimmers, who will compete for medals in seven events, including stars Josh Liendo and Kylie Masse who will be looking to add to their medal haul in Glasgow.
In this morning’s action at Tollcross International Swimming Centre, Oliver Dawson, of Grande Prairie, Alta., was the top qualifier in the men’s 200m breaststroke (2:10.05).
Lorne Wigginton qualified for the final of the men’s 400m individual medley, finishing second in his heat in a time of 4:17.23. The Calgary native set the Canadian record earlier this month in Montreal, swimming to a time of 4:11.32 at Canadian swim trials.
The Canadian foursome of Madison Kryger, Sophie Angus, Ben Loewen, and Antoine Sauve booked Canada a spot in today’s mixed 4x100m medley relay final, combining for a time of 3:51.80.
Josh Liendo advanced to the semifinals of the men’s 50m butterfly. The Toronto swimmer – who won gold in the men’s 100m butterfly – posted a time of 23.66 seconds to move on to Tuesday evening’s semifinal.
Ben Winterborn will swim in the semifinals of the men’s 100m backstroke after the Kingston, Ont., swimmer recorded a time of 55.55 in the heats.
