Etta Love’s inspirational message to Saskatoon
Canada’s Etta Mae Love shared a message following the women’s +86kg final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Following Canadian weightlifter Etta Love’s bronze medal in the women’s +86-kilogram final, the 17-year-old delivered an inspirational message to the young women, men, and members of the queer community back in Saskatoon.
“I think that a big part of it is getting to be your whole self no matter where you are,” she told CBC Sports reporter Devin Heroux.
“But it’s also that you deserve to trust yourself. I think that there’s always going to be something where you feel…I mean every situation that I’m in requires a little bit of a different role for me to be in. But the thing that I love about weightlifting is that it’s evidence to trust yourself.
“I have to trust myself to go and lift something that I know I need, that’s a little bit scary, but it also builds that. And I think that’s something that I take with me into other places in my life, where I know I have a deep trust that I will. That I’m like a friend to myself.”
