While WestJet workers are suspending job action, the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is warning travellers booked with the airline that their flights may still be affected.

WestJet and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) announced a tentative deal in the contract dispute early Monday, after several hundred flights were cancelled.

YVR said it would take some time for the airline’s operations to resume full service.

Twenty-one WestJet flights are scheduled to operate out of Vancouver on Monday, while 49 others remain cancelled, YVR said.

WestJet Encore flights were unaffected, it added.

WestJet flight attendants walked off the job on Sunday, in a push to be paid for the hours when they aren’t in the air, but may still be assisting passengers or waiting on delayed flights to depart.

Some WestJet passengers had to deal with the fallout from the disruptions Monday.

Tran Thai of Edmonton said his flight was cancelled. To reschedule, he said he has to fly from Vancouver to Victoria Monday evening, then wait on a 16-hour layover before he can get a flight home.

“I have to wait here all day — all day today — to get a flight,” Thai said.

WestJet has not disclosed details of the tentative agreement.

CUPE members will still need to ratify the deal before it takes effect.
