Parmar responds to critics
Asked what he would say to people who have been critical of the province’s response to the wildfire season, Minister Parmar says the wildfire service is fully committed to its job.
But he says they’re also battling against “some very extreme fire behaviour.”
Parmar says protecting communities is a top priority, but so is protecting wildfire crews themselves.
He says sometimes when people don’t see “boots on the ground” it’s because of safety reasons.
Some fires are burning in steep, challenging areas, he says, while other times aircraft can’t fly because of visibility problems due to smoke.
