Toronto’s The Hazelton Hotel has earned the AAA Five Diamond designation, becoming the only hotel in Canada and one of just two hotels in North America to receive the distinction in 2026.

The recognition adds another notable honour to the Yorkville boutique hotel’s growing collection of industry accolades, which includes Forbes Five-Star recognition and Two MICHELIN Keys. The announcement also comes as Toronto’s luxury hotel industry expands, with new properties such as The Clayfield in Niagara-on-the-Lake adding to Ontario’s high-end accommodation landscape.

The AAA Five Diamond designation awards hotels that maintain exceptional standards of service and guest care. For The Hazelton, the accolade places the property among a small group of hotels recognized at this level by AAA in North America this year.

Located in Toronto’s Yorkville neighbourhood, The Hazelton is a 77-key, family-owned boutique hotel designed by Yabu Pushelberg. Its guestrooms and suites are spacious, with each featuring either a private terrace or Juliet balcony.

The property combines accommodation with dining, wellness and entertainment, giving guests diverse experiences within the hotel itself. Its facilities include ONE Restaurant, with a bar lounge, dining room and wrap-around patio, along with Spa by Valmont, which features an indoor saltwater pool, fitness room and steam rooms.

The hotel also offers meeting and event spaces and a private 25-seat Norman Jewison Cinema equipped with DCP capabilities.

The latest recognition follows several other honours for the property, including Two MICHELIN Keys and Forbes Five-Star recognition. The hotel also holds the No. 1 hotel ranking in Toronto on Tripadvisor, according to the announcement.

AAA recognizes service and surroundings

For AAA, the Five Diamond designation reflects more than the physical setting of a hotel. It also recognizes the consistency required to maintain a high level of personalized service.

Stacey Barber, AAA Travel Vice President said, “AAA is pleased to recognize The Hazelton Hotel with the Five Diamond designation, meaning its unwavering attention to both service and surroundings has placed it into the upper echelon of AAA’s Diamond Program. To maintain the exceptional standards required for this designation on a daily basis is an outstanding achievement. Five Diamond hotels and restaurants consistently exceed expectations to provide their guests a highly personalized, memorable experience.”

Recognition reflects the team behind The Hazelton

Gaurav Dutta, General Manager of The Hazelton Hotel, said the designation embodies the consistency and care demonstrated by the hotel’s team.

Dutta said, “Receiving the AAA Five Diamond designation is an extraordinary honour and a testament to the passion, consistency and genuine care our team brings to the guest experience every day. This recognition belongs to our entire team. They live these standards every day, take pride in what they do and care deeply about the experience we create for our guests. That is what makes this recognition so meaningful. It reflects the people behind The Hazelton and the culture we have built together. We are incredibly proud to see that commitment recognized at the highest level and to represent Toronto and Canada on the global luxury stage.”

The Hazelton’s AAA Five Diamond designation adds another layer to the hotel’s profile as an independent luxury property in Toronto, while giving visitors more reasons to consider Yorkville when planning a stay in the city.
