Where are Canadians dreaming of travelling next?
Air Canada Vacations has revealed the winners of its second annual Travellers’ Top Picks Awards, tallying more than 1.3 million votes across 10 categories to map out the destinations dominating travel wish lists for 2026.
Among the most notable results, NYC was named “Top City Break” by Air Canada Vacations for the second year in a row, highlighting the city’s continued popularity among Canadians looking for short urban escapes packed with dining, entertainment and cultural attractions.
Canadians look to food, culture and adventure
While sun destinations remain popular, this year’s results suggest Canadian travellers are increasingly interested in experiences that go beyond a typical beach vacation.
Riviera Maya, Mexico, claimed the top spot in the Beach Vacation category, but the list of winners also included destinations known for food, culture, adventure and wellness. Santiago, Chile, was voted Foodie Favourite, while Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, topped the Adventure Travel category. Prague earned recognition for Arts & Culture, and Phuket emerged as the leading Wellness destination.
“Canadians have an incredible sense of adventure, whether they’re rediscovering a favourite destination in a new way or venturing somewhere completely unexpected,” said Selma Filali, Senior Director, Marketing and Digital at Air Canada Vacations.
“The Travellers’ Top Picks Awards offer a fascinating glimpse into the places inspiring Canadians to plan their next getaway and seek out new experiences.”
Familiar favourites are still favourites
Even as travellers show interest in new destinations, several long-time favourites remain firmly on Canadians’ radar.
Paris once again secured the top spot for Romance, while Nassau, Bahamas, was named the preferred destination for family travel. Meanwhile, Funchal, Madeira, stood out as this year’s Hidden Gem, suggesting travellers are willing to explore beyond the most visited destinations.
“This year’s results offer a clear look at where Canadians want to go next, from relaxing beach escapes and family holidays to food, culture and adventures around the world,” said Nino Montagnese, Vice President of Air Canada Vacations.

Turning travel inspiration into reality
The awards offer travellers more than a measure of popularity. They provide a timely snapshot of the destinations capturing Canadians’ attention and influencing holiday plans for the year ahead.
Whether it’s a city escape to New York, a beach holiday in Riviera Maya, a culinary trip to Santiago or a wellness retreat in Phuket, the results can help travellers narrow their options and start planning with confidence. Those seeking personalized recommendations can also connect with travel advisors to simplify the planning process and find the trip that best matches their interests.
As booking is ongoing for 2026, the latest list suggests Canadians are embracing both trusted favourites and new discoveries. This list could shape some of the year’s biggest travel trends.
