Canada’s Wonderland has closed two roller coasters after an incident on a similar ride at a Six Flags in Georgia left one person dead and several others injured on Monday.

The Behemoth and the Leviathan were both closed on Monday, according to Grace Peacock, spokesperson for Canada’s Wonderland, which is owned by Six Flags.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we have temporarily closed similar attractions across our parks,” said Peacock. “The safety of our guests and team members remains one of our highest priorities.”

Officials did not confirm how the person died or how the others were injured. Detectives with the Cobb County Police Department’s major crimes unit are investigating.

There is no timeline as to when the rides will re-open, Peacock said.

Six flags closed nine roller coasters across six amusement parks on Monday following the incident at Six Flags Over Georgia, about 24 kilometres northwest of Atlanta.

One person has died and several others were injured in an incident involving a Six Flags roller-coaster Monday afternoon in Georgia, according to police.

Authorities and Six Flags also did not identify the roller-coaster. However, local TV stations showed video of passengers being evacuated from the Goliath coaster.

The roller-coaster, which opened in 2006, reaches top speeds of about 113 km/h and heights of 61 metres, the park’s website reports. During about 3-1/2 minutes, riders “navigate through razor-sharp turns and soar over colossal hills,” according to the website.

The death on Monday would be at least the seventh at the Georgia park. It also comes less than two weeks after Six Flags Magic Mountain, in Southern California, announced that it is retiring its famous X2 roller-coaster amid lawsuits alleging serious brain injury caused by the ride.
