Cause of fire still under investigation
Defence Minister McGuinty told reporters earlier this hour that he “cannot recall an incident like this in recent memory.”
It’s not clear if the fire is under control, based on McGuinty’s comments.
“My understanding is that the fire is still being monitored very closely, but we’ll have more to say about that in due course,” he said during his news conference.
He added that Wainwright is providing hospital space and its firefighting services, but there is also federal support.
“We have, of course, Canadian Forces members. The RCMP is involved in investigating the matter. Our public safety officials are coordinating at this time,” he said.
