Eric Bauza of Scarborough, Ont., the Emmy-award winning voice actor best known for the iconic Bugs Bunny, has died. He was 46.
Bauza’s family announced he had passed away “suddenly” in a post to his Instagram profile Sunday night. The family did not say the cause of death, but indicated they would share more at a later time.
Bauza grew up watching Bugs Bunny’s exploits on the Looney Tunes cartoons at his home in the city. In 2020, he was charged with bringing the character to life in all his carrot-munching, prank-pulling glory.
“It is a dream come true,” Bauza told host Ismaila Alfa on CBC Radio’s Metro Morning at the time.
In addition to Bugs Bunny, Bauza voiced multiple other characters including Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird and Marvin the Martian. It took two auditions and plenty of practice to land the parts, he told Alfa.
In 2020, he gave his advice to young voice actors, telling them to remember that, at its base, it’s “about the acting, first.”
“You have to instill a performance that’s grounded in reality,” he said.
