Four people are in hospital after a shooting incident inside a Bridle Path home Thursday morning, Toronto police say.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at the residence, located on Hyde Park Circle, near Bayview Avenue and Lawrence Avenue E., around 3:43 a.m., Const. Shannon Eames said in an emailed statement.

She said four people were taken to hospital — three with gunshot wounds and one person with other, unnamed injuries. The three people were shot inside the residence, she said.

Two of them are in life-threatening condition, police said.

The incident is being investigated as a home invasion, Eames said. Three suspects were seen fleeing the area in an SUV, she said, but a suspect description is not available at this time.

Police are urging anyone with information to reach out.

‘Terrible shock’ for Bridle Path area: neighbour

While police have not identified the people who were injured in the incident or shared any details about what happened, neighbour Cecil Hawkins said the owner of the home is a “really lovely lady” with two daughters.

He said the incident this morning is “a terrible shock and tragedy” for the neighbourhood. Homes in the area typically have “good security,” so it was surprising to hear about what had happened, Hawkins said.

“The attack on Drake’s house was awful, but he’s a celebrity and you don’t think it’s ever going to happen to you as a more normal person,” Hawkins said.

“Shooting people in the house seems mind-boggling that they would actually do that. It’s a defenceless homeowner. Why would they react that way?”
