Late night host Jimmy Kimmel had some choice words for U.S. President Donald Trump last night as a “blue tsunami” stormed the country during the U.S. midterm elections.

Kimmel, host of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, dragged the president through the verbal mud in his monologue Tuesday night, in a clip that has since racked up more than 8 million views as of Wednesday afternoon.

“Trump was reportedly angry and cursing as the results came in,” he said. “Word from inside the White House is he’s already run out of dipping sauce containers to throw at the television set.”

He added, “the blue wave made landfall, and now the Red Wedding begins,” referencing a famous massacre in the HBO show Game of Thrones.

No major late-night shows aired live during the election results, but Kimmel’s show was taped later in the night than usual, around 7 p.m. in Los Angeles, so that Kimmel could react to the early results.

And react he did.

“After all the talk about Nicki Minaj’s ass, John Husted’s ass, the only ass on Trump’s mind tonight is the one that just got handed to him,” Kimmel said, referencing Trump’s perplexing comments in recent weeks fixating on the gluteal physique of colleagues.

“Democrats have officially taken the House, thanks to President Trump. Blob Vila flipped another house.”

The night saw Democrats retake the House and the Senate, winning several key races and flipping seats long held by Republicans.

Although the full results aren’t in yet, the Democrats have already gained seven seats in the Senate, 25 seats in the House, and five seats among governors, according to The Associated Press, making for a historic midterms for the U.S.

Leading up to the midterms, Trump frequently urged his supporters to “pretend I am on the ballot” in a bid to rally his base.

He struck a different tone on the phone to Fox News as the results came in, claiming that the sitting president always loses the midterms, and taking no responsibility for the Republican defeat.

“I shouldn’t feel guilty, because virtually … no matter how good the president is, you lose. I don’t know why. Nobody’s explained that,” he said.

Democrats seize control of U.S. House, Senate. What will they actually do?

The Democrats flipped several key seats in the U.S. midterm elections, and will take control of both the House and the Senate in January. What will they do with their new-found power?

He has blamed losses on lackluster candidates, even though Trump himself had endorsed or selected many candidates who suffered historic losses in areas long thought to be safe Republican seats. Trump hand-picked Darline Graham to replace her late brother Lindsey Graham as Senator in South Carolina, but she lost to Democrat Annie Andrews in an upset. Trump also endorsed Ken Paxton for Senator in Texas, only for James Talarico to make history as the first Democrat elected to the Senate in Texas in nearly 40 years.

“I have to believe he saw some of this coming, because this morning he was bragging about his approval rating in another country,” Kimmel said in his monologue, before playing a clip of Trump on Fox News talking about how he has a 99 per cent approval rating in Israel and joking that he’d move to Israel to become prime minister “if people ever get tired of me in the U.S.”

“That might be the best idea he’s ever had,” Kimmel said.

He slammed Trump for focusing on transgender people, “reflecting pools, racism against whites, Tylenol and Canada,” instead of priorities that align with “what Americans are worried about,” such as war, healthcare, climate change and inflation.

The Republicans’ historic losses come after an estimated $183 million US was poured into anti-trans attack ads attempting to criticize Democrats for supporting transgender people, according to The Associated Press.

Trump has repeatedly called for Kimmel to be fired by ABC in response to being the target of Kimmel’s comedy.
