John Rustad receives no-confidence vote from party caucus

Hi everyone, I’m a writer with the CBC News live pages team.

John Rustad has been removed as leader of the B.C. Conservative Party following a vote of no confidence from the majority of the party’s caucus.

Rustad had been facing calls to resign from the party’s management committee, who cited an “unprecedented level of turmoil that has engulfed our party” since the October 2024 election in a letter addressed to the party leader that was obtained by CBC News.

Rustad had previously insisted that he wouldn’t step down, and recently survived a leadership review with more than 70 per cent support — albeit with a 15 per cent turnout rate.
