A lower rate for the bottom tax bracket

Hi everyone! I’m your morning live page writer.

This morning, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre announced an income tax cut that he says will save the average worker about $900 a year (or $1,800 a year for a dual-income family).

It would cut the tax rate on the lowest tax bracket from 15 per cent to 12.75 per cent.

“We know that cutting taxes creates jobs and reinforces our economy,” Poilievre said in a video shared on social media. He said that a Conservative government would pay for the tax cut by reducing federal bureaucracy.

It’s expected that the Conservative leader will be asked about the proposal at his 10 a.m. ET campaign event in Brampton, Ont.
