Defence lawyers are expected to continue cross-examining the complainant today in the sexual assault trial of five former members of Canada’s world junior hockey team.
E.M. started her testimony last Friday, taking court through a night at a bar and a hotel in London, Ont., in 2018.
She said Monday her body was on “autopilot” during alleged abuse and felt she had to go along with what the men in the hotel room wanted. She said they at times laughed and spit on her.
E.M. also described her early conversations with police, telling jurors she initially only wanted police to speak with the men to prevent anything similar from happening to someone else. She said she ultimately decided to pursue criminal charges after detectives explained they could only speak to the men if they agreed to a conversation.
She also said one of the accused, Michael McLeod, texted her after he learned of an investigation and asked her to “figure out how to make this go away.”
In his early cross-examination, one of the defence lawyers suggested E.M. could have ignored those messages. He also also asked her about her level of intoxication while she was at the bar and hotel.
Dillon Dubé, Cal Foote, Alex Formenton, Carter Hart and McLeod have all pleaded not guilty.
