Defence presses E.M. on whether she knew men were ‘loaded’
Humphrey questions E.M. on how she got to know McLeod and what she knew about him.
Humphrey: “You spoke to an older man, Matt Maccarone, that night?”
E.M.: “Yes, he said McLeod was a great guy. He was trying to push me toward him.”
Humphrey: “Do you remember Matt Maccarone talking about hockey with Mr. McLeod or any other players within earshot?”
E.M.: “I don’t have a specific recollection of that, no.”
Humphrey: “Do you remember Matt Maccarone saying Mr. McLeod was an elite player who might play in the NHL one day?”
E.M.: “No. He said he’s a good guy, take care of him. He made it seem like he was well off, that he [McLeod] had a lot of money.”
Humphrey: “Matt Maccarone told you Mr. McLeod was loaded?”
E.M.: “Yes. He was trying to talk him up and make me more interested in him.
Humphrey: “You’re saying you didn’t know that Mr. McLeod was an elite player, you didn’t know his friends were likely headed or even already signed to the NHL?”
E.M.: “No, I didn’t know that until the next day, when my mom pieced it together.”
Humphrey: “Part of what made Mr. McLeod attractive to you is that he was an elite hockey player and he was loaded?”
E.M.: “I wouldn’t say I thought too much of that. I wasn’t retaining much of the conversation from that night. That didn’t impact anything for me.”
