Multiple fire departments are at the scene of a large fire at a fish plant in Nova Scotia’s Cumberland County.

Photos and video posted to social media show emergency services at the scene of the blaze at Aquashell Holdings Inc. in the community of Wallace on the Northumberland Strait.

District councillor Kathy Redmond confirmed that power in the area has been shut down as firefighters battle the blaze and a comfort centre has been set up at the Wallace Volunteers Fire Department hall.

About 460 homes are without power as of 1:30 p.m., according to the Nova Scotia Power outage map.

“All of our little communities around here always rallied,” Redmond said, adding that many community members in Wallace also work as volunteer fire departments.

“It’s very emotional. [I] hope that they all get out of that safely. So devastating for a small village that has so much care for each other.”
