What’s the Opposition saying ahead of the budget?

Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles, who heads the Opposition at Queen’s Park, issued a statement Wednesday imploring the Ford government to pass a budget that includes supports for workers who lose their income due to tariffs and to put money into schools, hospitals and affordable housing projects.

“This budget is a test of whether this government will choose to strengthen Ontario and build a tariff-proof future over vanity projects and delaying critical infrastructure projects, and whether they’ll take a united approach to deliver the reassurance, relief and results Ontarians need right now,” Stiles said in a release.

Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie said the budget is a test to see if the government will put people first. “Will Doug Ford invest in your family—or in his friends?” she posted on X, adding Ontarians deserve better health care, good jobs and a lower cost of living.

Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner said Ontarians are struggling right now and that he’s looking for a budget featuring “bold, responsible” spending.

All three leaders spoke with reporters inside the budget lockup today, so we’ll update you on what they had to say when we can.
