A 25-year-old Hamilton man has been charged following a threat made against Ontario Premier Doug Ford, police said Monday.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said Lucas Bauer was arrested and charged with one count of uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death, under Sec. 264.1 of the Criminal Code.

Bauer was arrested after OPP’s protective services section (PSS) launched an investigation into a threat against Ford on Sunday, OPP said in a news release.

“Threats are criminal in nature and will not be tolerated,” said Insp. Anton Jelich. “The OPP takes every incident seriously and is committed to investigating these matters, regardless of who is impacted.”

Bauer was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto on April 13.

This is the second person arrested within a week related to a threat against Ford.

On Thursday, OPP said a 20-year-old man was charged, in an unrelated matter.

OPP, which is tasked with protecting premiers, said that investigation began in mid-February and culminated in the man facing one count of uttering threats to cause harm.

The OPP said the accused is from Alliston, about 80 kilometres north of Toronto.

The man was released from custody but is set to make a court appearance on April 9 in Bradford.
