Tate McRae sweeps, Justin Bieber shut out at Juno Awards Gala
Hi! I’m Natalie Harmsen and I’m an associate producer with CBC Music. Typically I’m in Toronto, but tonight I’m giving you a behind-the-scenes look at some of the winners from the media room in Hamilton.
From the Grammys to the Junos, Bieber’s Swag comeback has left him without golden trophies this year.
Last night was a battle of the pop stars, as Bieber went into Juno weekend with six nominations, but was completely shut out by Tate McRae, who took home major wins such as album of the year, single of the year and artist of the year at the Juno Awards Gala, the industry awards that take place the night before the Junos.
McRae’s album So Close to What also beat out Bieber’s Swag II for pop album of the year.
Although 2025 was a major year for Bieber with his two surprise albums Swag and Swag II, it’s McRae who has been touring and promoting her album with interviews (including a Rolling Stone cover story), while Bieber mostly promoted his new projects on social media. Bieber is up for the fan choice award tonight.
