The Parliamentary Protective Service (PPS) has declared a lockdown at East Block on Parliament Hill.

The lockdown notice for 111 Wellington St. was sent Saturday afternoon to staffers who work on Parliament Hill.

They’re being told to seek shelter in the nearest room, close and lock all doors and hide.

CBC News has contacted the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) and PPS. Neither have provided information about the reason for the lockdown.

“If you are not in the immediate area, stay away until further notice. Do not travel to locations under lockdown,” the PPS said in their notice. “Wait for further instructions from first responders.”

In a social media post, the OPS said there is “an ongoing police operation on Parliament Hill at the moment” and that people should avoid the area.

Parliament is currently dissolved because of the ongoing federal election, meaning there is little activity on the Hill.

More to come.
