A 20-year-old man has been charged with threatening Ontario Premier Doug Ford, provincial police said Thursday.
The Ontario Provincial Police, which is tasked with protecting premiers, said the investigation began in mid-February and culminated in the man facing one count of uttering threats to cause harm.
OPP spokesperson Kalleen Turchet declined to provide any information about the nature of the threat or how it was made, saying in an email that information is being kept confidential to “protect the integrity of the investigation.”
The OPP said the suspect is from Alliston, Ont., about 80 kilometres north of Toronto.
The man was released from custody but is set to make a court appearance on April 9 in Bradford, Ont.
