Ceramics, glass bottles, shoes — and even human remains. Those were among the items recently recovered by maritime archaeologists from a Danish shipwreck, more than 225 years after it exploded in Copenhagen’s harbour. The wreck dates back to April 1801, when a powerful British fleet attacked the Danish defence ship called “Dannebroge” in an effort to force Denmark out of an alliance with Prussia and Sweden. More than two centuries later, diver Marie Jonsson is part of the team excavating the site. She spoke with As It Happens guest host Dave Seglins about what these long-buried discoveries are revealing from the seabed.
