Family had asked for ‘compassion and humanity’ in wake of deaths
Nick Reiner was the middle child of the couple’s three adult children together. (Rob Reiner was also the father of Tracy Reiner, who he had adopted during his marriage to Penny Marshall.)
On the day of Reiner’s first court appearance, Nick’s older brother, Jake, and younger sister, Romy, released a statement through a family spokesperson.
“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
The brother and sister said they were “grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life.”
They also asked for “respect and privacy” and “for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity.”
Multiple U.S. outlets have reported that Reiner had been staying at the guest house on his parents’ property at the time of the killings.
