Ottawa Public Heath is warning people who visited three Bank Street businesses along with a movie theatre, a gym, and a craft store last week that they may have been exposed to measles.
In a Thursday news release, the health unit said it had confirmed the city’s fifth case of measles this year.
They said the person contracted the disease while travelling in western Canada.
OPH says people who were at the following locations at the specified time windows should monitor for symptoms for 21 days:
- Shoppers Drug Mart at 702 Bank St. on Tuesday, Aug. 5 between 9 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.
- Michaels at 165 Trainyards Dr. on Tuesday, Aug. 5 between 8:15 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
- Fitness Lab at 34 Beech St. on Wednesday, Aug. 6 between 5:45 a.m. and 8:45 a.m.
- Wilf and Ada’s at 510 Bank St. on Thursday Aug. 7 between 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.
- Izakaya Shingen at 201 Bank St. on Friday, Aug. 8 between 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- Cineplex Odeon at 2385 City Park Dr. on Friday, Aug. 8, during a 6:50 p.m. viewing of Fantastic Four: First Steps.
In a separate news release, The Ottawa Hospital said an “isolated case of measles” was identified at the emergency department of the General campus.
The hospital said it’s notifying staff and patients who may have been exposed. OPH confirmed it was the same person from their release.
OPH added that at this time the risk to the general population remains low and that there has been no evidence of local transmission of measles in 2025.
Ottawa confirmed its first cases of measles in May.
As of Aug. 12, there were 2,362 cases associated with the ongoing provincial outbreak, according to the most recent data from Public Health Ontario. Two of Ottawa’s five cases are known to be connected to that outbreak, OPH said.
