A small plane crash near the airport in Lillooet, B.C., has claimed the life of a pilot, according to police.
In a statement, Lillooet RCMP said officers were notified of the crash at 5:17 p.m. PT on Wednesday. Emergency crews arrived to find the pilot — the sole occupant of the aircraft — unconscious and suffering from a life-threatening injury.
Cpl. Madonna Saunderson, a spokesperson for the B.C. RCMP North District, said despite immediate lifesaving efforts, the pilot was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) confirmed Thursday it has deployed a team of investigators to Lillooet.
The agency said the crash involved a privately registered Bushmaster Super 22 aircraft but did not provide any additional details.
Lillooet is located about 250 kilometres northeast of Vancouver.
