Emergency crews resumed searching Thursday morning for a woman who was swept into the water at Cape Spear the afternoon before.
Speaking with CBC News at the scene of the search Wednesday evening, St. John’s Regional Fire Department Platoon Chief Dean Foley said there was ‘no likelihood’ the woman survived and he considers the search a recovery mission.
In a statement on X posted Thursday morning, the RNC said crews were back on the scene to resume the search, and had closed the road in places.
“A number of responding agencies are on scene including Rovers Search and Rescue and the Canadian Coast Guard. Please allow emergency personnel to conduct their work,” said the statement.
Foley said they received an initial report around 4 p.m. on Wednesday of a car in the water, but later learned a man and a woman had been swept into the water. The man was rescued and went to hospital, he said. His current condition is unknown.
