Shaparak (Butterfly) was first premiered in Los Angeles back in 2019. This play features 7 actors and 1 singer with an instrumentalist.

Shaparak tells of a battle of light, and darkness. Butterfly being pure and innocent, while our Spider being purely dark and evil. Shaparak tells of a battle of light, and darkness. Butterfly being pure and innocent, while our Spider being purely dark and evil. The story begins with the butterfly falling into a spider’s web in a dark warehouse. The spider is hungry and sees the butterfly as his food. The butterfly meets multiple characters; a grasshopper, a fly, a bee, a cockroach and a firefly. But when she hears of their life story and troubles she cannot bring herself to lie to them. In the end she decides to go back to the spider’s web empty-handed, and …

Shaparak opens in Toronto on June 10 (Tuesday) and runs until June 15 (Sunday).

The event is in Persian, however; there will be English subtitles.
