Grab your rosé and head to the dock cause Summer House is coming to Canada, swapping the Hamptons for Ontario’s cottage country.
Hayu, NBCUniversal’s reality streaming service, and B.C.-based Lark Productions announced Thursday that production is underway for Summer House Canada in the scenic Muskoka region. It’s the first international adaptation of the hit reality show.
“Muskoka offers the perfect, iconic Canadian setting to introduce Summer House Canada and build on the franchise’s momentum,” said NBCUniversal’s Hendrik McDermott, managing director, international DTC, in a news release.
Like its U.S. counterpart, the Canadian version will follow a group of friends who on weekends go to a shared cottage, where relationships and drama unfold.
“Summer House has become a beloved global franchise known for its authentic friendships, big personalities and the unforgettable moments that come from spending a summer together,” said Erin Haskett, president and executive producer at Lark Productions, the Vancouver company also behind The Real Housewives of Toronto and Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent.
It follows other Canadian versions of reality TV series, which recently have included Canada Shore — now filming its second season in Kelowna, B.C., for Paramount+ — and the recently announced return of Big Brother Canada, coming to CTV and Crave.
The announcement comes a day after the U.S. Summer House earned its first Emmy nomination in its 10 seasons for best unstructured reality program.
The aftermath of the latest season was messy because cast members confirmed, after production had wrapped, that they’d been dating for months and hidden that from their co-stars and fans — breaking long-standing friendships and leading to an even messier reunion episode, which broke viewership records.
The Canadian show will be 10 parts and will stream exclusively on Hayu. The team behind the show says casting details will follow in the coming months. The series is expected to premiere in 2027.
