Pilots for two helicopters parked at the Nain airport on Friday morning reported tampering with their aircraft to police, prompting an investigation.
In a press release Friday afternoon, RCMP say the two aircraft were landed just before 6:30 a.m. at the site on Middlepath Road. It states the pilots discovered “signs of tampering and minor damages to both aircraft” two hours later, at about 8:30 a.m.
Asked about what was noticed, police say the pilots “discovered clear signs that storage compartments had been opened, and at least one of the aircrafts had been entered and controls had been manipulated.”
RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said further specifics won’t be shared publicly just now to protect the integrity of the investigation.
Officers arrived at about 8:45 a.m. after the pilots reported the incidents to police. Police say the investigation is ongoing, and are asking anyone with information related to the case to contact them.
RCMP say the aircraft will be subject to professional inspection before they can fly.
