American country star Jelly Roll and podcaster Bunnie Xo are breaking their silence following the news earlier this week of their divorce.
While onstage at the Saratoga Springs, N.Y., stop of his Little ASS Shed Tour on Thursday, Jelly Roll took time to address online speculation about their split.
“I wasn’t going to talk about this tonight … but the internet is a liar,” he told the crowd in a video of the event posted on his Instagram page.
“Me and my wife are best friends. We will always be best friends.”
He added that “nobody cheated on nobody,” though that contradicts an interview he gave last year, in which he admitted to having had an affair.
He thanked Bunnie Xo for their “incredible” 10-year marriage.
Earlier that day, Bunnie Xo, whose real name is Alisa Deford, spoke about the divorce on her Dumb Blonde podcast, saying it should be settled in a few weeks and that, despite the breakup, they still plan to co-parent together.
“That’s my best friend … and you guys are going to be shocked to hear this, but we’re still having a baby, we’re still having a baby together,” she said, adding that they were undergoing IVF.
She said what led to the divorce was an argument on Mother’s Day, during which she told him to “file the f–king divorce papers,” before packing her bag and leaving. She said they didn’t talk for weeks.
“He was so mad and we were so emotional that he ended up doing exactly what I told him to do and filing the divorce papers,” she said.
“It was not mutual. Even though I told him to file the divorce papers, I was speaking out of anger and frustration. But was it necessary for us to have a wakeup call and to actually start having these real conversations? Absolutely.”
Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, filed for divorce on May 18, citing “irreconcilable differences,” according to court records in Williamson County, Tenn.
The couple married in 2016, and renewed their vows in 2023. They have no children together, but Jelly Roll has two children from previous relationships.
They have spoken about relationship problems in the past. Jelly Roll said in a podcast interview last year that he’d had an affair, calling it “one of the worst moments of [his] adulthood.” Bunnie Xo said in a TikTok post in 2024 that the couple had broken up in 2018.
