Montreal police announced “with profound sadness” that Const. Mohamed Lamine Benredouane was the officer who was killed in the line of duty Monday during an intervention in the Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood.

He was 34 years old. He had been with the force since 2021.

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) published the fallen officer’s name online.

He died “in the line of duty while protecting the public,” the SPVM says on its website.

“His passing is a great loss for our organization. His sense of duty, dedication and professionalism will remain in our memories forever.”

The SPVM says its flags are at half-mast to pay tribute to the fallen officer.

“Fallen, but never forgotten,” the SPVM says.

Benredouane and a civilian were killed in the shooting. One suspect who was allegedly involved in the shooting was killed. Another injured officer is in stable condition and a civilian sustained minor injuries.

Police were called to the scene Monday after a witness reported seeing a “gun sticking out of a window,” said police Chief Fady Dagher.

While the investigation is ongoing, Quebec’s Domestic Security Minister Ian Lafrenière has said the shooting in Montreal remains a “domestic case” and is not related to terrorism.

Quebec’s police watchdog, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), has been assigned to investigate the events that took place during the intervention.

Quebec’s premier ‘deeply shocked’ by shooting that leaves Montreal police officer and 2 others dead

Christine Fréchette says the flag at Quebec’s National Assembly will be lowered to half mast and police services are ‘fully mobilized’ to shed light on these events.
