Not just a train ride, memory of the lifetime

Champagne on the Glacier Express. A private carriage on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. A 17-day trip across Canada in GoldLeaf Class. Great Rail Journeys just made all of it bookable in one new collection.

The company has launched the Landmark Collection, a lineup of escorted luxury rail journeys now open for booking through 2027. It spans Europe, Canada, Africa and the UK, with trips running from seven to 17 days.

Not just a train ride, memory of the lifetime

This isn’t only about the scenery from a window seat. Every itinerary in the collection pairs rail travel with upscale hotels, exclusive experiences and small group sizes, plus a Tour Manager who handles the details along the way.

Great Rail Journeys built the collection around standout moments, whether that’s crossing the Swiss Alps or boarding the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.

The Premium Glacier Express: Switzerland’s Alpine Icons is one example. It’s an eight-day trip aboard a privately chartered Excellence Class carriage, with guaranteed window seats, welcome Champagne and a five-course dinner with wine pairings.

For an extended escape, the Orient Express & Luxury Rhône Cruise runs 10 days from Venice to Paris on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, followed by a Rhône River cruise limited to 12 guests. Great Rail Journeys calls it an exclusive pairing of the Orient Express with a luxury Belmond river cruise.

Dave Riley, CEO of Great Rail Journeys ecstatically commented, “The most memorable journeys change the way we see a destination. With Landmark, we’ve brought together the experiences travelers often dream about, from iconic trains and remarkable hotels to meaningful moments that connect them more deeply with the places they visit. These are the kinds of journeys that stay with you long after you’ve returned home.”

Canada is on the luxury rail map

Canadian travellers get a marquee option too: the Premium Canada Coast to Coast Tour, a 17-day journey covering GoldLeaf Class aboard the Rocky Mountaineer and stays at Fairmont hotels in Québec City, Toronto, Jasper, Banff and Vancouver.

It follows Canada’s transcontinental rail routes, linking several major destinations into a single extended trip, which makes it one of the most comprehensive rail holidays in the country right now.

Rail travel in Canada is shifting in other ways too, including efforts to make the trains more accessible for families. VIA Rail’s partnership supporting families travelling for paediatric care is one recent example of that shift.

What else is in the luxurious escape

The collection also includes a 17-day Grand Tour of South Africa, with five-star dining and air-conditioned suites on board.

In the UK, the seven-day Premium London & Scotland journey includes private access to historic palaces and castles, a stop at Kensington Palace and a talk led by Princess Diana’s former butler.

A taste of what awaits

Bookings for the Landmark Collection are open now through 2027. For Canadians eyeing a coast-to-coast trip, the Rocky Mountaineer option gives a rare chance to combine GoldLeaf Class rail travel with five stops at Fairmont properties in one itinerary, worth checking availability early given the limited group sizes across the collection.
